ABOUT OUR RAT LURE – NUT BUTTER
Our Nut Butter lure is targeted at rats & mice and has successfully controlled rodent populations in many gardens, warehouses and other sites in Britain. It’s been scientifically developed to maintain excellent attraction for up to a month and remains stable in conditions from the tropics of the Pacific and the British climate. Goodnature rat & mouse lures contain no toxins, meaning there is no risk of secondary poisoning to native species or your pets.
Goodnature lure pouches have been developed so users can pre-feed sites and keep their control projects primed for top performance. They are easy to use and long-lasting; a little goes a long way; they’re excellent for use in other types of traps too.
Goodnature Nut Butter Q&As
What is a lure?
Firstly, it’s important to note the difference between lure, rat bait, and rat poison. We talk about lure often because it’s what we use in our Automatic Lure Pump. It’s the food source that attracts rodents to your trap. This could be described as rat bait, but rat bait feels a lot like rat poison for us.
Can I buy an A24 trap kit with Nut Butter?
No. Given our field testing suggested that the Nut Butter lure is as effective as Chocolate, there is no need to change the lure in the A24 kit. When developing the new lure, we intended to offer an equally compelling alternative for our customers rather than a need to improve effectiveness.
However, the lures have an 18-month shelf life so that you can purchase Nut Butter as an addition to your kit and transition between the two.
Why would I need to use the Nut Butter lure?
Our field testing suggested that Nut Butter lure is as effective as Chocolate. They are both long-life and non-toxic to pets, non-target species and children.
When developing the new lure, we intended to offer an equally compelling alternative for our customers rather than a need to improve effectiveness. So while you don’t need to use Nut Butter, you have a choice between flavours (i.e. a preference over handling one over the other), or you may have an interest in trialling flavours in your environment.
Why didn’t you make a peanut butter lure?
When we decided to increase our lure range, a peanut butter lure was an obvious place to start, given rodent preference. However, after extensive field testing, we found that the long term viability of a peanut butter lure was a challenge (it deteriorated relatively quickly, becoming mouldy and hard).
And given long-life lure is a key aspect of our ‘set and forget’ A24 trap, it was an issue we needed to overcome and were able to do so with hazelnuts. Hazelnuts proved to be as attractive to rodents as the Chocolate lure while also having the bonus of being safe for those with or living with those who have severe peanut allergies.
Why hazelnut?
Rats thrive on high fat, high energy foods like nuts. While we started with peanuts and couldn’t achieve all of the elements needed for a Goodnature long-life lure, hazelnuts proved to be an excellent alternative. It ticked all of the necessary boxes and proved to be just as effective as our Chocolate lure.
Any pet risk?
No. There aren’t any ingredients in the lure that would cause illness in pets or non-target species (or children!). If you have any nervousness (perhaps around unique food sensitivities), we’d suggest you pre-feed in areas where your pets can’t access the lure.
Does the Nut Butter lure have butter in it?
No, but it does have a dairy-based ingredient (milk powder).
Can I buy Nut Butter in bulk?
Yes. Please discuss your requirements with our Customer Care team.
How do I buy or set up the Nut Butter?
The Nut Butter is available in an ALP (Automatic Lure Pump, which emits slow-release lure via the A24 trap) system, so swap out with your current ALP.
Could I use it with another type of trap (not Goodnature)?
Yes. It is available in a Pre-Feed pouch. We provide pre-feed support to trapping by enabling users to place lure deposits around the immediate area.
